Dr. Jeanne Jakob was raised in Illinois and completed her undergraduate, PhD, and postdoctoral training in the Midwest (UW-Madison, Case Western Reserve University, Univ of Michigan). She opened her 1st private practice in Plymouth, MI (2012-2015) before her family relocated to the Bay Area in 2016. She has since established offices in Mountain View, Los Gatos, and now Morgan Hill, CA. You can learn more about her psychotherapy practice HERE.
Dr. Jakob received training and supervision in old-school (psychodynamic, family systems, humanistic), "second wave" (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and "third wave" psychotherapy modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) .
Dr. Jakob has particular expertise in anxiety, trauma, PTSD and exposure-based interventions, particularly Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD . She worked for many years on PTSD clinical trials and has treated an array of trauma survivors, including combat veterans, sexual/physical assault survivors, and developmental trauma survivors.
Dr. Jakob believes in balancing book knowledge with body/life experience knowledge. She regularly incorporates mindfulness, relaxation, and experiential techniques into her therapy sessions. Her personalized guided mindfulness sessions are inspired from a culmination of 20+ years of practicing yoga, attending ACT and mindfulness retreats, and learning emotion regulation, hypnosis, and imaginal exposure-based techniques by experts in the field.
Dr. Jakob attributes much of her deep learning about human behavior, psychology, and parenting to her most important job to date, as mother to two amazing, creative children who remind her to play and be in the present moment.
